On-site Corporate Flu Shots

FAQs for Flu Clinic Administrators

  1. How does a flu clinic benefit my company?
Flu vaccine is a good investment for your company. Employers save $106 for each infection averted in their staff. Companies can expect a return of $2.58 for each vaccination dollar spent and will enjoy four more productive days per year for everyone inoculated.

Statistics show that each infected employee will miss an average of 2.8 days of work, which equates to 353 million work days lost.

On average 36,000 people die from influenza each year. 114,000 are hospitalized costing employers over $5 billion in lost productivity. This equates to $645 per employee hospitalized.
  2. How do I see the online signup sheets for our clinic?
On the confirmation email you received when you booked your clinic, you received instructions on viewing the information for the clinic. If you have misplaced this email, contact OccuVAX at 1-800-558-5754 or send an e-mail to flusupport@occuvax.com for assistance.
  3. How do I encourage more people to take advantage of the on-site vaccination clinic?
Education is the most important factor. Use the materials that OccuVAX sends (posters, flyers, etc) in high-traffic areas, and send emails and make announcements as well, using some of the statistics that we have sent you regarding the numbers of days lost, hospitalizations, and death. Encourage people that they are also protecting their families from the flu by not carrying home the infection.

Encourage employees to visit our website and read the FAQs for information about the vaccinations and some of the myths associated with them. We also have a link to the CDC flu site, which is very informational and helpful.

If at all possible, encourage your company to partially or fully fund the clinic. Vaccination clinics that are company-paid are frequently two to three times as successful as employee-paid ones. Again, using the statistics on lost productivity, it is money well spent.
  4. What should I provide to assist OccuVAX in a successful flu clinic?
Although OccuVAX works hard to make your flu clinic as effortless as possible for you, there are a few things that are required to make the clinic work:
    • A conference or break-type room.
    • A table and a few chairs.
    • An available contact person during the clinic in case the nurses have questions.
  5. How will I receive the supplies for my clinic and what do I do with them?
In most instances, your supplies will arrive the day before your clinic via UPS. The vaccine is included in this supply box and will be packed in a Styrofoam cooler on ice. If your supplies arrive the day before your clinic, please leave the supply box intact until the nurse arrives the next day for the clinic. No refrigeration of the vaccine is necessary. Should supplies arrive on Friday of the previous week, the vaccine will need to be removed from the cooler and kept in a refrigerator until the day of the clinic. The ice packs need to be put into a freezer for return of any unused vaccine. OccuVAX nurses will take care of the repackaging of the supplies for return.
